The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Kebbi State branch, on Monday said it had issued 386 pairs of free eye glasses to patients suffering from eye defects in Augie Local Government Area of the state. The glasses were distributed to patients suffering from glaucoma, shortsightedness, cataracts and other related diseases to enhance their vision.

Kangiwa, the state branch Chairman, said the association had conducted 48 surgeries for Hernia, laparotomy and appendicitis, saying that drugs were also administered to diabetic and hypertensive patients.He explained that the association had embarked on voluntary medical services in rural areas to promote the health status of the people. He also called on the state government to recruit and deploy additional medical personnel to the rural health centres for effective coverage.

The chairman said that as professionals, the association would sustain the free medical services, especially in the rural communities, saying that it would not limit the services to urban areas.

NAN reports that the association had offered free medical treatment to 4,860 patients in Yauri and Zuru emirates in the last two months.
