The Nigeria country Director for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) , Ms. Ratidzai Ndhlovu has disclosed that about 100 women die daily in the Northern states of Nigeria during child birth. She said this during a work-shop in Sokoto State, North-west Nigeria, tagged  “Accelerating the reduction of maternal deaths in Northern Nigeria : the role of traditional and religious leaders”.

She opined that all concerned should step up efforts to curb the menace as no woman should die in an effort to bring a life to this world.

The Sultan of Sokoto at the same venue also called on the three ties of Government in Nigeria to step up the training of Traditional birth attendants for deployment to healthcare facilities to complement the work of trained midwives; all in an effort to reduce maternal mortality.
