At a workshop on child and adolescent psychiatry in Lagos, a psychiatrist at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, Dr. Oluwayemi Ogun raised alarm over the increase in child mental illness and advised that focus should be early treatment of the disease before it becomes chronic.

According to her, the hospital recorded 189 patients between November 2015 and February 2016; she has therefore called on the Federal Government to pay more attention to primary healthcare programme in order to reduce the level of illness among children and youths.
