Regular eating of green leafy vegetables and nitrate containing vegetables can reduce the risk of primary open end glaucoma according to some USA researchers. About 63,000 nurses female nurses were involved in the study from 1986-2012 and about 41000 male health professionls from 1984-2012. All participants were over 40 years when they entered the study.

They were divided into five groups and each group was given nitrate containing vegetables and green leafy vegetables of different strengths:- group 1—80mg/day while group 5 —240mg/day.

It was found that greater intake of nitrate containing vegetables and green leafy vegetables reduce the risk of the condition by about 30 percent.

 

It was published in the Journal of American Association (JAMA) of Ophthalmology.
