Some 1.25 million people are killed in traffic accident around the world each year, with Africa by far the continent with the most dangerous roads, WHO said in recent report published.
Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death among the 15-29 year olds worldwide and cost government on the average, about 3% of their annual gross domestic products, the report showed.
The report found that safety had improved significantly in countries with law regulating five risks factors: drunken driving, speed, use of helmet, seat belt and child seat belt.
WHO has therefore recommended mandatory use of helmet for all on two wheels, ban on drunk driving and use of both front and back seats.
