A French soldier on guard at the Louvre in Paris has opened fire at a suspected attacker, media reports say.
The soldier is reported to have been attacked with a knife and his assailant seriously injured.
The attacker is said to have been trying to enter the museum. A big security operation is under way.
A source quoted by Reuters news agency said the man had tried to get into the museum’s underground shop carrying a suitcase.
The interior ministry described the incident as “serious”.
