The South African para-olympic athlete who was convicted for culpable homicide involving his girl friend is to return to jail; the Supreme Court of South Africa has changed the earlier verdict of culpable homicide to murder, a much heavier offence.

With the new ruling, Oscar Pistorius will spend about 15 years in jail, signaling the end of his career.

Oscar Pistorius was arraigned in 2013 February for shooting his then girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp to death in his toilet, for which he served less than a year in prison on conviction in a lower court.

But the prosecution appealed the ruling to the Supreme Court
