Stomach surgery meant to reduce weight has been found to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart attack, and high blood pressure. The weight reduced by about 20 kg and remained reduced.

A total of about 8000 adults were involved in the study; 4000 had surgery while the other 4000 did not have surgery.

Those who had the surgery lost weight, and their risk for high blood pressure, diabetes and heart attack.

There are three types of stomach surgery for weight loss; gastric band, partial gastrectomy and gastric bypass.
