A recent joint report produced by UNICEF, WHO, The World Bank and the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) shows that Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest under-five mortality rate in the whole world.
Though total global deaths of under- five have dropped from 12.7 million per year in 1990 to 5.9million in 2015, a drop of about 53.5%, short of the set goal (MDG’s) of 66.66% by 2015.
The drop is also not uniform globally with Sub-Saharan   Africa in the lowest rung of the ladder.   Moreover, the killer disease remains the same:- prematurity, pneumonia, Malaria, Diarrhoea, puerperal sepsis and birth complications.
