A recent study conducted in Sweden has established an association between sugary drinks and poor diet; these drinks are already associated with type 2 diabetes. The study which involved 25,000 Swedes between the ages of 45 and 74, overweight but had no diabetes, heart disease or cancer found out that those who consumed a lot of sugary drinks consumed less of fruits, vegetables, fish, cereals and high fibre bread.

Conversely, those who took a lot of tea and juices consumed more of the healthy foods above.

The study was carried in Lund University in Malmo, Sweden, but is however not conclusive as more work needs to be done.
