The government has commended the World Lung Foundation (WLF) for its initiative to implement the National Health Strategy (2013-2018), which is advocating e-Health solutions.

Speaking at the launching of an e-learning initiative run by the WLF, to help improve the quality of care of expectant and new mothers and their babies in Dar es Salaam, the Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Seif Rashid said that similar initiatives have already been taken by his ministry and are implemented by other development partners.

“It is important to improve the knowledge and clinical decision- making skills of healthcare providers in order to intensify the government and global effort to reduce maternal death in the country,” he said. WLF is implementing the National e-Health Strategy advocating e-Health solutions, through enabling healthcare workers to have access to continuous professional development through e-learning and digital resources.

A statement issued by WLF said this Information and Communication Technology (ICT) initiative is supported by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and Merck for Mothers and will be available in 13 health facilities supported by WLF in Kigoma, Coast and Morogoro regions. The Minister further said that the government will continue to support efforts taken by WLF towards this initiative and address the challenges that continue to face the health centres.
