The current outbreak of Lassa fever infection in Nigeria has reached Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. The index case was diagnosed at Ahmmadiyya Hospital, in the suburb of Lagos which has been shut down by the state government.

 

 Meanwhile, the patient has been isolated at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos.   

 

According to the Lagos State Government, about 107 persons who had direct and indirect contact with the index patient in Lagos State are currently being monitored for any signs of Lassa fever infection.

 

Twelve (12) states and the FCT in Nigeria are now affected by the current outbreak: Bauchi, Niger, Taraba, Kano, Gombe, Nasarawa, Edo, Ondo, Lagos, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rivers and Plateau.

 

The current outbreak started in Niger State, North central Nigeria in August 2015; about 44 persons have died so far.
