Parts of the World celebrated World Prematurity Day yesterday, 17/11/15. It was well celebrated in Bangladesh where a seminar was organized to create further awareness of the condition. A baby is premature if born before the 28th week of pregnancy; it is different from being underweight or of low birth weight. According to one of the papers presented, about 15 million babies are born premature globally every year; of this 1 million die. Premature babies die due to inability to maintain their body temperature, inability to feed properly and infections.

Prematurity can be prevented by delaying first pregnancy, spacing pregnancies and proper anti natal care.
