Ntungamo District has received Shs400 million from World Bank to renovate the dilapidated Itojo Hospital. The chief administrative officer, Mr Samuel Kaija, said the district leadership and the hospital administration would consider essential facilities first for renovation because the money is not enough for an overhaul.

“Most parts of the hospital are in bad shape, we have had meetings to see which area we can renovate first.

The drainage and wards are in a poor shape and the outpatients’ department also needs urgent attention,” Mr Kaija said on Tuesday. He said the hospital, which was built in 1964, needs about Shs3b to be fully renovated. There have not been any major renovations since its construction except the painting of the maternity and pediatric wards by Egypt in 2009.
