The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Tuesday said it had not called off its proposed strike action scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

In a statement signed by its President, Dr Osahon Enabulele, the association urged its members to disregard any information purporting that it had called off the strike.

The NMA said its members should rather proceed with the planned withdrawal of service.

“It has been brought to our attention that there is news making the rounds that the NMA has called off the proposed strike action for Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013.

“We wish to inform our members and members of the public to disregard any such information and to proceed with the planned action for the withdrawal of service from Wednesday,’’ the statement said.
It said the strike action would hold until the association’s National Executive Council (NEC), which was empowered by its Emergency Delegates Meeting (EDM), decided otherwise.
