The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends an average of 400g of fruits/vegetables daily for adults below 35years for good health. This translates to five servings of fruits and vegetables; potatoes, cassava and other tubers are excluded.
A recent study in India has shown that youths consume less of fruits/veggies, doing only about 3.5 servings daily due to pressure of work, tight schedules and the fact that they are always away from home. Also, the options for packaged fruits and vegetables are limited besides the knowledge that it is unhealthy to eat vegetables and fruits raw in India due to pesticides; they have to be thoroughly washed.
Consequently youths are more inclined to fast foods which are processed.
We all should endure to consume five servings or 400gs of fruits and veggies every day.
