World Bank approved $150m loan for Bangladesh’s public health sector

World Bank (WB) approved additional loan for Bangladesh’s public health sector, a WB press release said today. The US$150 million equivalent credit will be used mainly in immunization, improving reproductive health and fighting tuberculosis.

The Board of Executive Directors of WB okayed this new financing to a running project- ‘Bangladesh Health Sector Development Program’ which will be processed through International Development Agency (IDA), with 38 years maturity and 6 years of grace period. This ‘additional support will help the government address health sector challenges including: sustaining and improving immunization coverage; improving deliveries for pregnant women at public health facilities; and tackling multi-drug resistant tuberculosis.
