The world observes 21/9/17 as Alzheimer’s day. The disease is common among the elderly and is associated with defective mental functioning. A person affected forgets easily, forgets ever meeting persons, misplaces things without ever remembering where they were placed, forgets his environment such that he could miss his way in a very familiar neigbourhood and route, may not be able to dress himself or care for himself hygienically.
The day is meant to raise awareness of the disease, to remember those affected and also be on the look-out for early signs in those close to us. This year’s theme is ‘Remember Me”.
