World Polio Day: NGO wants breakdown of immunization budget spending
During the launch of 2016 budget scorecard for immunization and Midwives Service Scheme (MSS), A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) has called on the federal government to give detailed breakdown of immunization budget spending.
Speaking while giving the 2016 scorecard, CHR Executive Director, Aminu Magashi said “the government scored green, indicating that it prioritized the immunization budget”, and he was however worried that despite priority given by the government, there was no breakdown and transparency in providing the public with details on the spending as indicated by other score bars.
On the Midwives Services Scheme (MSS), CHR scored the government high for prioritizing the project but scored the government poor on transparent budget time table and budget information communication to the public, and The NGO also expressed worry that the midwives were not paid for 9 months, despite over N1billion appropriated in the 2016 budget.
The Executive Director wondered whether the money was meant to pay the arrears or recruit new health workers, and he said ensuring transparency on all the processes would help to ensure the success of the programme in the country.
