The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, Dr Yakubu Ashuku, has said that in order to ensure that precious lives are not wasted; there is the need for health facilities to give urgent attention to accident victims. He, however, disclosed that part of the services which is offered at no cost in his Specialist Hospital was the free treatment of multiple accident victims whose relations cannot be immediately reached.
According to him, since the suspension of the strike recently embarked upon by medical doctors in Nasarawa State, all health services in the hospital have been going on without any hitch as all departments in the hospital have continued to put in their best in ensuring that medical services are delivered on time and in the general interest of the patients.
The CMD further noted that the state Government in its wisdom has since settled all the issues raised by the medical doctors during the strike.
He also stated that the state Government has put in place proactive measures to ensure that LASSA fever outbreak did not resurface in the state through the provision of essential kids and vaccines.
“Our case in Dalhatu Araf Specialist hospital being a government facility is unique. This is because government takes care of virtually everything, so we have minor challenges to deal with.
“This is why accident victims that are brought in here are sure of free treatment as directed by the governor. Our drugs are supplied to us by the state government. Ours is the professional input and one of the challenges we have here is shortage of manpower,” he said.
Dr Ashuku , however, applauded the effort of the Nasarawa State Governor for putting in place proactive measure to ensure that industrial harmony between the government and medical doctors in the state is achieved.
This, according to him, if sustained, will make the state a good example for other states in the country to emulate.
