Nigeria yesterday joined the rest of the world to celebrate the World Diabetes Day; the 15th of November of every year. This day was set outside in 1991 by the International Diabetes Association.
On this day, the authorities in member countries raise awareness of the disease, causes, preventive measures and complications. Diabetes is a medical condition, non-communicable, in which the sugar in the blood is higher than normal and characterized by excessive passage of urine, excessive thirst and excessive consumption of water.
The disease has no cure but it can be controlled.
Nigeria should improve publicity about diabetes. In difficult to reach areas people are dying without knowing diabetes was the causal agent.
