Nigeria is now a Regional Centre for Disease Control; the Director of Africa Union Commission (AUC) Ambassador Olawale Maiyegun stated this in Abuja during a brief visit to the National Centre for Disease Control.
According to him, the Africa Union in collaboration with Nigeria’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has declared the country a Centre for Disease Surveillance and Control in the West Africa region following the containing of Epidemic like Ebola and Lassa fever in the recent times.

Responding, the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the NCDC, Prof. Abdulrahman Nasidi stressed that with the new responsibility, NCDC will now be ready to carry out elaborate research in disease surveillance, prevention and control.
