The Senate of the University of Lagos has been ordered by Justice Sule Hassan of a Federal High Court in Lagos to suspend its decision to upwardly review the academic requirement for 100-level medical students to proceed to 200 level pending the hearing and determination of a suit filed by some aggrieved medical students, challenging the decision.

The 31 students had approached the judge claiming that the alleged upward review of academic requirement for them to proceed from 100-200 level was a deliberate attempt to weed them out in order to accommodate Diploma student from the Faculty of sciences who allegedly paid #500,000 to the institution’s College of Medicine.

The students further described the new upward review as arbitrary, carried out without genuine intentions to enhance academic standards in the MBBS and other medical programmes in the college of medicines. Among others, they sought an order of certiorari, reviewing the decision of the university.
