A new study conducted in Australia by a team at the University of Sidney, Australia has re-emphasized the importance of physical activity during the daily waking period.
The study published in the International Journal of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity showed that replacing one hour of sedentary activity by one hour of walking can reduce risk of early death by 13-17 percent.
The study involved about 200,000 adults who were 45 years and above and spanned over a four year period. Self administered questionnaires were used.
According to the study team, ‘Inactivity is a bigger health problem than previously thought’.
